“You could call [my work] a visual diary or even a personal history. I’m not going to paint something that doesn’t have anything to do with me. Of all of the possible things I could paint, the thing that interests me is something that I can get close enough to in order to paint it honestly.”

Jonas Wood

Jonas Wood born 1977 in Boston, Massachusetts is a contemporary artist based in Los Angeles.

Warm-up + Project:

Jonas Wood is prolific, and intensely driven in his process and ideas for artmaking.
His themes include portraits, still lifes, landscapes, and interior scenes, which he declares are all ideas from personal experiences.

_

Our focus will be on his style and technique using flat design, repeated patterns for textures, and creating paintings that sometimes look like collages. His drawings and studies for his paintings include a collage process.

Think Andy Warhol meets Matisse. Whatever subject you decide to focus on for your project we will get started with the preliminary exploration during our warm-up time and complete the piece by the end of class.

All materials are welcome.

Let's have some fun creating in the style of Jonas Wood!
