Tadáskía is a multidisciplinary artist based in Brazil who uses drawing, sculpture, and mixed media to articulate themes of transformation and joy influenced by her experiences as a Black trans woman.
Warm-up + Project
Grab your crayons, oil pastels, poscas, and black marking tools!
We are going to draw freely and spontaneously in the energy and style of this exciting Brazilian artist Tadaskia.
Her work is reminiscent of our doodle drawing warm-ups and spontaneous expressive line-making.
I would like you to consider working in a larger format in order to stretch outside of your comfort zone. You may choose any type of substrate to compose your drawings, large white paper, brown paper, or cardboard. You may tape together multiple pieces of paper if you do not have a large enough piece to use for your drawing.
As Tadaskia remarks in the NYT article about her installation at MoMA, she did not plan the whole thing out, but made it freely.
I am excited to see how we all respond to this project!
